CurvedPixels Self Portrait

Reflection:
Within my piece, my goal was to show the digital age. I use the pixelated look around the head to show this. I also wanted to display formality and focus. That is why I am wearing a black tie and vest, with a simple white shirt. Focus is portrayed by the looks on my face. I am staring forward, ready for whatever is to come next.

During the creation of my project, I took a visit to the movie theater. When I got there, I started looking at the different movie posters for inspiration. At this point in my project, I was almost finished but I was looking for other’s use of negative space. I realized that I had, almost accidentally, created a very similar design to that of a movie poster for Transcendence. The movie was about the takeover of new technology when we are further in the digital age, just like my project. While I had only the top half of the image pixelated, the poster had the entire left side pixelated. This had shocked me. I was surprised that I would have created something extremely similar to a movie poster I had never seen before.

I was not able to find any indication of the artists name or the name of the artwork. They used the same focused stare that I displayed in my image and also pixelated one side of the image to show the digital influence. The main difference in the creation of our pieces was that I chose to show more of my body and use the color of my outfit to merge with the background. In the movie poster, the artist chose to zoom in on the face more and create contrast between the shirt and the background.
